Packed Week of Animal Crossing News: Everything You Need to Know

Blog Article

This week has been nothing short of eventful for Animal Crossing fans! Whether you're an avid player of New Horizons, a dedicated Pocket Camp enthusiast, or someone eagerly awaiting the next installment, there's been plenty of exciting—and slightly bittersweet—news. Here's a comprehensive recap of all the latest happenings in the Animal Crossing universe, ensuring you stay up to date.

Farewell to Pocket Camp’s Original Version

Nintendo recently announced that the original version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will soon be replaced by the new Pocket Camp Complete. This upgraded version offers a smoother gameplay experience and improved features but comes with significant caveats for longtime fans.

One of the most impactful changes is the discontinuation of the collaboration between Pocket Camp and New Horizons. As of November 28th at 3 PM UTC, players will no longer be able to link the two games, meaning the exclusive Pocket Camp-themed items for New Horizons will become unobtainable unless already unlocked.

This move has sparked disappointment among fans, many of whom hoped for a minor patch to make these items accessible through New Horizons’ in-game shop. Unfortunately, this won't happen, making these items a form of "lost content." If you're new to the game or planning to restart your island, now's the time to unlock these items before they're gone forever.

Sanrio Collaboration Limitations

Adding to the mixed feelings, Nintendo also confirmed that some Pocket Camp collaborations, including the beloved Sanrio character items and villagers, may become inaccessible unless already unlocked in the original game. For example, if you’ve previously invited Sanrio villagers to your campsite or acquired their items, you can transfer them to Pocket Camp Complete. However, these items won’t be available for new players post-transition.

It's worth noting that this doesn’t affect the separate Sanrio collaboration in New Horizons, so fans of the console game can still enjoy their Sanrio-themed items and villagers without worry.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sales Milestone

On a more celebratory note, Nintendo's latest sales report revealed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold an astounding 46 million units worldwide. This makes it one of the best-selling Switch games ever, outpacing the entire Splatoon franchise and even coming close to the combined sales of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Such massive success bodes well for the future of the franchise. Nintendo undoubtedly recognizes the game's enduring appeal and will likely invest heavily in the next installment to match—or surpass—this monumental achievement.

Backwards Compatibility Confirmed for Switch 2

Nintendo has finally confirmed that the successor to the Nintendo Switch (informally dubbed "Switch 2") will support backwards compatibility, including New Horizons. This is excellent news for fans concerned about the transition to a new console generation, as it means we can continue enjoying our islands without interruption.

Moreover, the Happy Home Paradise DLC will also carry over, ensuring that players can keep designing dream homes and enhancing their gaming experience on the new hardware.

However, don’t expect the next Animal Crossing title to be playable on the current Switch. Historically, Nintendo hasn’t supported "forward compatibility" for new games on older consoles, and it’s unlikely this will change. The new game will likely take full advantage of the advanced capabilities of the next-gen hardware, meaning you’ll need the new console to play it.
